Hebrews 6

The Peril of Falling Away

1Therefore aleaving bthe
Lit word of the beginning
elementary teaching about the
I.e. Messiah
Christ, let us press on to
Or perfection
,
fmaturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from gdead works and of faith toward God,
2of hinstruction about washings and ilaying on of hands, and the jresurrection of the dead and keternal judgment. 3And this we will do, lif God permits. 4For in the case of those who have once been menlightened and have tasted of nthe heavenly gift and have been made opartakers of the Holy Spirit, 5and phave tasted the good qword of God and the powers of rthe age to come, 6and then have fallen away, it is simpossible to renew them again to repentance,
Or while
,
usince they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.
7For ground that drinks the rain which often
Lit comes
falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those wfor whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;
8but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and xclose
Lit near to a curse
to being cursed, and
Lit whose end is for burning
it ends up being burned.

Better Things for You

9But, aabeloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that
Or belong to
accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way.
10For acGod is not unjust so as to forget adyour work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having aeministered and in still ministering to the
Or holy ones
saints.
11And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence
Lit to the full
so as to realize the ahfull assurance of aihope until the end,
12so that you will not be sluggish, but ajimitators of those who through akfaith and patience alinherit the promises.

13For amwhen God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He answore by Himself, 14saying, ao“I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.” 15And so, aphaving patiently waited, he obtained the promise. 16 aqFor men swear by
Or Him who is greater
one greater than themselves, and with them asan oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute.
17
Lit In which
In the same way God, desiring even more to show to authe heirs of the promise avthe unchangeableness of His purpose,
Or guaranteed
interposed with an oath,
18so that by two unchangeable things in which axit is impossible for God to lie, we who have
Lit in which
taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of azthe hope set before us.
19
Lit Which hope we have
This bbhope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which bcenters
Or inside
within the veil,
20 bewhere Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a bfhigh priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
